What does IKIGAI mean anyway?

Ikigai is a Japanese concept that refers to a sense of purpose or meaning in life. It is often used to describe the intersection of four main elements: what you love, what you are good at, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for. The idea is that finding and pursuing your ikigai can lead to a fulfilling and satisfying life.

In the context of design solutions, ikigai can be seen as a way to approach problem-solving and decision-making. When faced with a design challenge, we align our work with our ikigai by considering the following questions:

  • How can we incorporate our passion and interests into your design solution?

  • How can we use our strengths and skills to create value in our work?

  • What problems or needs does the client have that our design solution can address?

  • How can our design solution generate sustainable forms of compensation for our clients?

By considering these elements, we can create design solutions that are meaningful and rewarding for our clients and that contribute to the world in a positive way.
